Guest speaker will be Sir Peter Vardy

Sir Peter Vardy DL is a British businessman and philanthropist from Sunderland. In 1976, Sir Peter took over his family’s local car business with six staff, and developed a national chain of 100 motor dealerships and 6,000 staff. Reg Vardy plc became the most profitable motor retailer in Europe and was sold in 2006 for £506 million.

Sir Peter is currently chairman of the Vardy family businesses and the family’s charitable trust, The Vardy Foundation. The Foundation built and sponsored one of the first City Technology Colleges in Gateshead and then three City Academies in areas of high deprivation. More recently, Sir Peter is the UK patron of volunteer-based charity Safe Families for Children set up in 2012 in order to work with families in crisis and prevent children entering the care system.

Sir Peter has received several business, industry and philanthropic awards, as well as two honorary doctorates and a knighthood for services to business and education.
